October has for many years been the time for harvest; a time of plenty. Yet for a number of young people in our area, this will not be the case.
Doncaster has a growing number of homeless young people, many of them sofa surfing and hidden under the radar. At YMCA Doncaster, we provide a home for up to 30 young people and provide support for many more.
Part of that support includes handing out food parcels and welcome packs, and we rely on generous donations from local people and businesses who donate throughout the year.
These provisions are a lifeline for many and are used up quickly. We hope that this year’s #Givetober campaign will fill our store ready to provide much needed items to our young people in the months ahead.
We are asking you to collect the items on our #Givetober calendar and spend a few moments each day considering those less fortunate.
It is straightforward; we have provided a printable calendar (click here to download yours) and all you need to do is add one item each day as it appears. You could do this at home with family or at work with colleagues; the choice is totally up to you.
Filled boxes can be brought to YMCA on Wood Street; we are open 9-5 most weekdays. For a list of our opening times, please click here.
If you would like a full list of items we offer to our young people, they can be found here
We are fine with any substitutions as long as they are taken from this list, and we are grateful for any donations you make. Please remember that all items must be sealed, within their use by dates and not require refrigeration.
We’d love to tweet as you collect things. Remember to tag us @ymcadoncaster and we will retweet your pics.
