I believe everyone has the right to have a place to call home.

Jim has been one of our Keyworkers since June 2020.

Keyworkers like Jim work directly alongside our young people, supporting and coaching them in achieving their goals. Or as Jim likes to describe it, “it’s like throwing lots of ingredients into a bowl and trying to create a lovely fresh cake.”

Although it’s a challenge gaining the trust of these young people, Jim thinks it’s all worth it when he sees how even small changes can develop into life changing events. “There’s nothing more satisfying than going home knowing you’ve made a small difference somebody’s life. I believe everyone has the right to have a place to call home.”

With a varied working background from bagging potatoes to prison service, Jim describes working at YMCA Doncaster in this role as perfect for him, enabling him to pass on his skills and knowledge to others.

Outside of the job however, Jim spends lots of his free time being inventive, particularly with wood: “I can make anything out of anything,” he declared. The latest of his creations is an 8-foot-high bird table!

But perhaps his most impressive achievement to date, he tells us, (apart from “being fourty-seven and loving life”) is being dubbed ‘Fashion Influencer’ by CEO, Louise, after one of his YMCA tweets was commented on and liked by Primark.
