No two days are the same. There is always something to do. It certainly keeps me on my toes.
Alex has worked for YMCA Doncaster in night positions since 2002.
He was born in Doncaster and now shares a home with his family who he is very proud of, he spends as much of his spare time with his loved ones as he can. He also states that in his spare time he likes getting involved in “sports and recreation”, explaining that he once went to Pontefract Races and never actually saw a horse!
The first job role Alex gained was as an Apprentice Fitter at a tractor factory.
“The job taught me to respect other people and listen to their views and ideas.”
Directly before coming to work for YMCA Doncaster, Alex was in a role that saw him overhauling compressors. With a number of roles in a mechanical setting, why would he be drawn to a position in supported housing?
“I got to the age of 40 and decided to have a career change.”
It would appear that he has never looked back. With over 20 years “on the clock” as part of the team of YMCA Doncaster, Alex says he is “almost part of the furniture”.
Alex’s role as Night Housing Worker has very varied duties; asking Alex to sum up the role he states:
“No two days are the same. There is always something to do. It certainly keeps me on my toes.”
Alex is a valued member of the team and has a great rapport with staff and resident clients alike. He is well respected by the young people who live in the Supported Accommodation, which shows that the skills he brought from his first job have certainly paid off in his role here.
Alex has many talents that he brings to the job and Association. He states that he has another special talent, he can touch his nose with his tongue; not necessarily something he can use in his role here, but it is entertaining to see!
