I took on the new role, and immediately fell back in love with working at YMCA Doncaster. It really did feel like I was back at home and as soon as a full time position came up, I applied straight away!

Lee-Ann is our Grants Officer and began working in this role for YMCA Doncaster in July 2020.

Having worked in almost every area of the organisation for fifteen years before that, Lee-Ann was the perfect person to take on this new role: organising grant and trust applications to keep funding more exciting projects. “That’s the best bit of the job,” Lee-Ann said without hesitation, “when we get the go ahead for a grant, it’s so exciting because it means we can get more work moving forward!”

She originally started working for YMCA Doncaster as Receptionist in 2004. Since then, she has taken on numerous other roles such as PA to the Chief Executive, Children’s Activity Leader, Duty Manager and Keyworker, but is now working hard to get our programmes funded.

After a brief time away to experiment with working for a national housing association, she was drawn back to YMCA Doncaster after her son was born very premature. Needing a step back from full-time work, she began working part-time for us and loved it: “I immediately fell back in love with working at YMCA Doncaster. It really did feel like I was back at home. As soon as a full-time position came up, I applied straight away!”

Passionate about charity, Lee-Ann now spends her time talking with funders about how great the work of the YMCA really is: “It’s important people understand that we’re an independent, local organisation who are perfectly placed to deliver helpful services for Doncaster’s young people.”

Lee-Ann was born and raised in Doncaster, and currently lives here with her husband and two children. They all enjoy a bit of fancy dress and have entertained themselves during the pandemic by putting on themed meals: pirate, medieval, Victorian…you name it, they’ve done it!
