I have been involved in a number of fundraising events, which I have enjoyed. I personally see, on a daily basis, those who benefit from these efforts and I am so happy to be a part of it.
Nikki has worked for YMCA Doncaster as Personnel Administrator since June 2019.
Born in Doncaster, Nikki was known as ‘Nikki the hippy’ at school as a result of her 70s and 80s inspired dress sense and music taste. At 15 years old her class went on a school trip to Disneyland Paris and her friends surprised Nikki with a Mickey Mouse beanie toy dressed as a hippy. She still has it to this day!
Nikki is a qualified yoga instructor and currently teaches two classes a week. She is also a qualified Run Group Leader, having hosted a group called ‘Mums Team’.
Nikki’s running journey began in April 2016 when her son was 3 and her daughter was 2. After 18 months, Nikki completed her first half marathon shaving 20 minutes off her expected finish time. She states that she got the running bug and spent the next few years entering many local races.
Early mornings certainly featured in Nikki’s first job working in her Aunt and Uncle’s textiles shop in Thorne;
“I was about 13 or 14 when I started working there. I worked all day Saturday and then I would be up at 5am on a Sunday morning working with my Uncle on his textile market stall at Hemswell Market. My Uncle would spoil me with plenty of sausage sandwiches and burgers from the onsite burger van to keep me going throughout the day.”
Following her school two week work placement at a local supermarket, Nikki was offered a job to start as soon as she turned 16. She worked at various chains of the supermarket whilst she completed school and college.
Before joining the staff team at YMCA Doncaster, Nikki was a stay at home mum for five years until her youngest child was at full time school. Prior to that, she worked for an insurance solutions provider, leading the Data Management team.
“I had worked in the private financial sector for almost eight years and I knew that I didn’t want to return to that environment. After becoming a parent my perspective changed. Going to work is time away from my family, so the environment in which I spend my days needed to give me job satisfaction. I came across this position at YMCA Doncaster and it instantly felt like the right path.”
The office in which Nikki works is based within the Community Centre and she sees a lot of what is involved in the day to day running of YMCA Doncaster;
“I see the care and effort that is made and the time that’s dedicated. I have been involved in a number of fundraising events, which I have enjoyed. I personally see, on a daily basis, those who benefit from these efforts and I am so happy to be a part of it.”
