I’m honoured to step into the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees at YMCA Doncaster, an organisation that does incredible work with vulnerable children and young people across the city.
Simon Marsh has served on the Board of YMCA Doncaster since April 2025, stepping into the role of Chair in July 2025.
Born and raised in Doncaster, Simon has lived in the city for most of his life and has always had a strong commitment to its growth and development.
He brings with him over 45 years of experience in the IT industry, having held senior executive positions across both the public and private sectors. His career highlights include serving as Chief Information Officer for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and for Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust, before retiring in March 2024.
When asked about why he wanted to be a part of YMCA Doncaster, Simon said: “The organisation does incredible work with vulnerable children and young people, and I’m looking forward to using my skills to help shape its future. Having lived in Doncaster nearly all my life, I’m especially keen to engage with the local community to ensure we can continue empowering people for years to come.”
Simon’s experience of working on other boards, together with his professional background, gives him a deep understanding of governance and leadership. He is passionate about helping charities to thrive through strong strategy and effective teamwork.
Outside of his trustee role, Simon enjoys an active family life as a proud father and grandfather. He often spends his free time with his granddaughters and has a love of cycling, regularly getting out on his bike to explore the local area.
Simon holds great hopes for YMCA Doncaster’s future: “I want to see us continue expanding the support we offer, especially in housing and community engagement. It’s about making sure that young people in Doncaster have the opportunities and foundations they need to build brighter futures.”
