Rosh Milner

Being a Trustee at YMCA Doncaster allows me to be part of an organisation that’s faithful to its roots, provides a place of welcome, community, and opportunity for young people.

Rosh Milner has been a Trustee of YMCA Doncaster since April 2025.

Born in Sydney, Australia, but raised in Surrey and Hertfordshire, Rosh studied English Medieval Studies at Exeter University and later gained counselling and housing qualifications. She was brought up in a loving Christian home, and her faith was strengthened by two significant events in her early life: her brother’s near-fatal hit-and-run accident and the loss of her mother after a long battle with a brain tumour.

Her career began in Liverpool, where she served as Deputy and then Warden of a 72-bed hostel in Toxteth. It was there that she developed her deep conviction that homeless and vulnerable people deserve more than ‘just enough,’ they have a right to feel safe, affirmed, and valued.

After 13 years in Liverpool, she moved to Yorkshire, married a Yorkshireman, and began her career with YMCA Doncaster as Housing Manager. She went on to work for YMCA England in a variety of roles, including Northern Housing Field Officer, and was instrumental in developing and implementing the National YMCA Insync Standards.

Alongside her professional work, she served as Trustee and Chair of the national charity Keychange, supporting Christian care communities for both elderly and vulnerable young people. In 2014, she launched her own consultancy specialising in organisational and governance development, while also caring for her husband.

When asked why she wanted to support YMCA Doncaster, Rosh said: “I have always had a heart for the work of the YMCA; if you cut me in half, I think I would have YMCA through me like a stick of rock.

I recently attended a performance of The Soul in the Machine, which told the story of Sir George Williams, who founded the YMCA movement in 1844. I’d like to play my part, to help us continue as a place where young people could find safety when life was uncertain, friendship when they felt alone, and opportunity when the future seemed out of reach.

Outside of her trustee work, Rosh enjoys walking with her cairn terrier, DeeDee, horse riding, swimming, and travelling, especially to Scotland and Australia. She is very involved with her local church, St Lawrence in Hatfield, and loves both singing and listening to music. A fun fact about her is that she has played two very different starring roles: the Lion in The Wizard of Oz and Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show.
