YMCA Doncaster is proud to be partnering with YMCA Barnsley and YMCA White Rose to bring Saltmine Trust’s powerful production, The Soul in the Machine, to South Yorkshire this September.

The play tells the inspiring story of Sir George Williams, a country boy with big dreams who went on to found the YMCA, a global movement that has been transforming lives for over 180 years.

Following a successful tour at YMCA locations across the UK, the production will be performed at Liberty Church, Rotherham, on Thursday 18 September 2025. Doors will open at 6:15PM, with the performance starting at 7:00PM.

This special event is a celebration of the YMCA’s heritage, but it also shines a light on the vital work being carried out locally. For YMCA Doncaster, this includes tackling youth homelessness, addressing housing shortages, and providing free extracurricular opportunities for children and young people through our Activities Programme.

Louise Roffey, Chief Executive at YMCA Doncaster, said:
“We’re excited to be part of this partnership to bring such a powerful story to South Yorkshire. Sir George Williams’ vision lives on in the work of YMCAs across the region, and this event is a fantastic opportunity for people to learn more about our history and the impact we continue to have in our communities today.”
