Graham Archer joined our Board in November 2021.
“I knew I wanted to help the local community,” Graham said after explaining how he moved back to Barnsley to be closer to his dad. “I’m at the point in my career where I can dedicate more time to the community and my own personal development. So, after chatting to you more, it really struck me what you guys do and I felt I wanted to help the charity get back to normality and continue helping people.”
With more than twenty years’ experience in finance, Graham brings extensive business expertise to YMCA Doncaster. He is currently Senior Director of Finance at Global Experience Specialist, a global trade show and exhibitions company, where he works closely with managing directors and the board to drive growth and deliver long-term strategy.
Graham’s career began in an unexpected way. Having studied a degree in Computing, Management and Science with the intention of working in IT, a temporary finance role sparked his interest and led him to qualify as an accountant. Since then, he has built a broad career working across multiple business sectors, from car rentals to aerospace manufacturing.
After returning to Barnsley to be closer to family, Graham was eager to contribute to the local community. “I’m at the point in my career where I can dedicate more time to the community as well as my own personal development,” he says. “YMCA Doncaster makes such a big impact in supporting young people, and any support I can provide to help in that mission will be time well spent.”
Outside of work, Graham enjoys travelling – his favourite destinations include Berlin and Thailand – and is currently tackling a large house renovation project, a challenge he admits may be more ambitious than planned.
